Remember my postings about SORR or Save Our Rainforest Race which I have been supported for years?
SORR which was firstly introduced by Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam Malaysia PEKA in year 2013, is an annual race against time with the aim to increase the awareness of the public on how important it is to preserve our mother nature.
In SORR, participants were taught on how important are trees and nature in our life through interactive educational activities and one of the most important task is tree planting where participants planted trees to show their love to the world.
SORR 2018 will be held in the state of Selangor with UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd as the main sponsors.
UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, recently held a Media briefing to announced PEKA and Department of Music, Faculty of Human Ecology of University Putra Malaysia (UPM) as the beneficiary of Toyota Classics, a musical charity event presented annually by UMW Toyota Motor and Toyota Motor Corporation. This is via Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra of UK performance at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, KLCC on 31 October 2017.
The UK based orchestra is known for its versatile programming of classical, light classical and popular music. The orchestra has a worldwide reputation for working with international renowned artist ranging from opera luminaries such as Andrea Bocelli, Jose Carreras and late Luciano Pavarotti to popular cultural icons such as Liza Minnelli, Sting, Barry Manilow, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder among numerous other famous singers. They regularly appeared in UK most celebrated summer music festival and performed in major venues in the world, from Asia to North and South America.
The conductor, Anthony Weeden is known for his diverse musical style and its noted for stepping beyond musical boundaries. Anthony's award winning works include Johann Johannson's film score the Theory of Everything, a Golden Globe winner for Best original score which was also nominated for Oscar. His talent makes him frequently in demand with orchestras and ensembles worldwide.
Solo violinist David Juritz is well known for his recording of Vivaldi Four Seasons which has been widely hailed by critics as one of the finest interpretation of that much-recorded work.
The event is expected to be and excitement in the Malaysian cultural calender in the month of October. Apart from enriching art forms, the event aims to raise funds through tickets sales and corporate donations which will go towards youth engagement programs.

The UMW Toyota Motor President, Ravindran Kurusamy in his speech said that "UMW Toyota has supported 65 charity organisations and NGOs to a total of more than RM8 Million so far and will continue to do so as these contributions represent our commitment to sustain our corporate citizenry efforts, which is one of the core values of our organisation". The gross proceeds of the Toyota Classic performance this year will go to two worthy recipients ~ PEKA and Department of Music, Faculty of Human Ecology of University Putra Malaysia (UPM).
