Tanah Aina Banana Leaf Restaurant presents South Indian food in a different way!

Hello lovely readers,

One of the most popular foods in Malaysia is 'Mamak or Indian' food which offers a vast variety of food and flavours.

Most of Malaysian love banana leaf rice which is mostly served in the Indian restaurant. Just a thought of the soft steam white rice with varieties of savoury curries, three types of vegetables, crunchy papadoms, fried dry chili, acar can arouse your appetite.

I recently had an opportunity to experience banana leaf cuisine at the newly opened Tanah Aina Banana Leaf Restaurant.

Located at No. 3, Jalan Mesra 1, Taman Mesra, Batu 3, Shah Alam, Selangor (next to Tanah Aina Cafe), Tanah Aina Banana Leaf Restaurant opened its door for business on June 2019.

Combining two different cultures, South Indian with a little touch of Western, Puan Sri Shariffa Sabrina Syed Akil, the owner of Tanah Aina chain of resorts and Tanah Aina chain of food and beverage outlets, said that her aim is to bring Indian cuisine food to the next level. Even food takes the spotlight, the ambiance plays a very important role too in order to provide guests with an unforgettable dining experience. Tanah Aina Banana Leaf Restaurant promises cleanliness, comfort and friendly service to its diners.

Once you stepped into the restaurant, you will be greeted with a cool ambiance. The combination of earth colours - white, green and brownish is a feast to the eyes and created a cool feeling to the heart.

The simple, minimalist and cool ID caught my eye's attention

A set of banana leaf rice with three types of vegetables, papadoms, fried dry chilis, acar, sambal and rasam is only priced at RM9.00. Curries are served on a tiny bowl individually. Free refills of curries and rice are available upon request.  The curry tasted so good and the vegetables were perfectly cooked

You can add-on other dishes such as Sotong/Udang Tiga Rasa, Ikan Lemak Kuning, Black Pepper Lamb, Curry, Kurma and Chicken Curry or Kurma too. Depending on the size ordered, prices started as low as RM4.00 only.

I also tried a piece of Chapati. To be honest, I am not a fan Chapati *even though it is healthy and low in calories, (68 calories per piece only)* but once I eat it, I was instantly hooked with the taste and texture of this Indian flat bread served at Tanah Aina Banana Leaf Restaurant. It is soft, light, puffy and airy. I finished the whole piece!

I also tried two (2) pieces of Idli served with Chutneys and I finished it all too.

With vast variety of food, perfect ambiance, mouthwatering Indian cuisine and 'a reasonable price, Tanah Aina Banana Leaf Restaurant is definitely a perfect place for you and your loved one to dine at.

So, if you are at the nearby location, do look out for this restaurant and check it out!

I have patronized this restaurant twice. On the first occasion, we tried the banana leaf rice and it was good. The curries and vegetables were pretty authentic. However, today we opted for the Sardine Thosai and the sardine mutarbak, as highly recommended by the waitress. The thosai was good but the mutarbak was disappointing. It was soggy and was a size that did not match the price. I could have eaten a better one at half the price at any Mamak restaurant. But what was even more disappointing was the attitude of the cook cum waiter when I pointed out to him that really this was not a mutarbak. He nonchalantly walked away. But credit must be given to the waitress who had recommended the mutarbak because she profusely apologized.
