The very own Malaysian Philharmonic Youth
Orchestra (MPYO) continues its 10th anniversary celebration with a
pioneering collaboration with RTM Orchestra (or Orkestra Radio Televisyen
Malaysia) this October. Audience will witness the performances of one of the country’s
youngest orchestras together with the oldest ensemble in Malaysia.
Themed ‘MPYO & Friends’, the collaboration
is scheduled
on Saturday, 7 October 2017 and Sunday,
8 October 2017 at 8.30 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS
(DFP), KLCC.
Prior to this, the MPYO has
collaborated with Yayasan Warisan Johor, Orkestra Tradisional Malaysia, Hong
Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Youth Symphony Orchestra. All collaborations have stretched the MPYO’s
virtuosity and versatility to another level.
RTM Orchestra is recognized by the
Malaysian Book of Records as the nation’s longest-running orchestra and has
presented many mega-concerts both locally and abroad. Founded in 1961, the
45-member orchestra has become the nation’s pride in the arts and culture scene.
The orchestra has also released 25 albums of various music genres.
In these concerts, the MPYO and RTM Orchestra
will collaborate with renowned singers such as Dato’ Jamal Abdillah, Adibah
Noor and jazz legend from Indonesia, Harvey
Malaihollo, through a mesmerizing
repertoire which consists of songs such as Dia,
Jerat, Hujan, Begitulah Cinta, Kau Lupa Janji, Samrah Mentari and Ghazal Untuk Rabiah.
Other songs to be included in the
concerts are Jauh Jauh, Airmata Berderai,
Suatu Masa, Dark Eyes and We Are One.
All concerts will be led by MPYO’s Ahmad Muriz Che Rose and RTM’s Leonard Yeap while Dato’ Mokhzani Ismail will act as the artistic director for these showcases.
These concerts will affirm the MPYO’s status
as an orchestra full of vibrant enthusiasm and energy, having grown by leaps
and bounds since its establishment in 2006. With its current 98 members, the MPYO aims to nurture and encourage young musicians
in their passion and integrate them into a highly skilled ensemble. In its brief existence, it has showcased its brilliant
musicianship all around Malaysia including Sabah and Sarawak, Singapore and
Brisbane, Australia.
Beguile in these magical splendour
with the two orchestras, only at DFP!
